Indoor Air Quality

To conserve energy, homes are built increasingly airtight. This traps pollutants that can be harmful to you and your family and can make your home less comfortable.

If you have questions about indoor air quality, let us know. We can recommend products that can help improve the air quality in your home. We can even sell them. All products meet or exceed American Lung Association Health House guidelines.

Types of Filters

Here is a list of the types of filters we recommend:

  • Mechanical filters—these filters draw air through a flat, pleated or high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) surface to trap particles.
  • HEPA filters—the most efficient mechanical filters for removing small particles that can be breathed into the lungs. The highest efficiency air filters, and widely available.
  • Electronic air cleaners—in their simplest form, these include negative ion generators that charge airborne particles so they become attracted to and settle on room surfaces. Activity within a room, however, may stir up and release the settled particles back into the air.
  • Hybrid filters—made up of two or more of the above filters.
  • Gas phase filters—often attached to air cleaning devices to filter specific gases, vapors, and odors.

EPA Interactive House Tour

We’re pretty impressed by this interactive feature developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Indoor Quality House Tour will give you a quick glimpse of some of the most important ways to protect the air in your home.
